12x36 oil on stretched canvas

Monday, August 07, 2006

This is a small abstract I worked on a couple of months ago. I wasn't sure what I was doing and still don't know. Acrylic, powdered pigments.

I worked on this abstract for about 2 hours tonight. There will be just a bit more added details.

2nd session

I do not know where I will go with this. It is a process because I am watching the relationship in colors.
This is a chart I made and use to see the cool colors and opposites.

Work in Progress - I imagine there maybe 3 to 4 progress photos before its completed. I will post the first one I started with to the last one. This was an old abstract I started last year. Instead of throwing away the canvas I decided to revert back to the abstract style I first started painting.

I have not really done an abstract for a long time. Normally, when I get into the colors I start blending and putting in little things. I think I stopped short of completely balancing this abstract out. It seems to lack punch! This is a very small abstract 4x6

I don't know what else to add to this so I will post it and wait to see what else you see Paula or suggest that I add. I know it is unfinished but I am lost with it at the moment.

It is hard to start this post becuase this is a very ugly stage of an unfinished painting. It is the first time I try to do and abstract without a texture underneath that usually helps guiding as where to go with it. I have also used pours at other that help to bond the painting but I want to learn to paint and abstract using only color and paint brush.

"Art is a creative effort of which the wellsprings lie in the spirit, and which brings us at once the most intimate self of the artist and the secret concurrences which he has percieved in things by means of a vision or intuition all his own, and not to be expressed in ideas and in words-expressible only in the work of art".- Jaques Maritain
